Highlights — Why we like Barkhor Street

AA

Intro

Barkhor Street is the sacred pilgrim circuit surrounding the Jokhang Temple in the heart of old Lhasa. Every day, thousands of Tibetan pilgrims walk the clockwise circuit — spinning prayer wheels, reciting mantras, and occasionally prostrating the full length of the route. The street is also a lively market of traditional Tibetan handicrafts, religious objects, and everyday goods. Walking Barkhor is the most intimate and profound encounter with Tibetan Buddhist culture available to visitors.

Best Time to Visit
