Dafen Oil Painting Village is one of the most fascinating and bizarre creative communities in the world — a village in Shenzhen's Buji district where approximately 8,000 artists produce the majority of the world's reproduction oil paintings. Walk through the alleys and you will find painters simultaneously working on stacks of identical Van Goghs, Monets, and Klimts. You can commission a custom portrait, buy a famous masterpiece reproduction, or simply observe one of the most extraordinary cottage industries on earth. The village also has a growing community of original artists.
