Manting Park Dai temple and ancient trees, Xishuangbanna, Yunnan, China

Overview

Manting Park is Xishuangbanna's oldest and most revered garden — a royal Dai park established over 1,300 years ago as the residence of the Dai King. Ancient trees shade pavilions, Buddhist temples, and ponds where peacocks roam freely. The park feels genuinely sacred and is the centre of the Dai Water Splashing Festival each April — the new year celebration where the entire city engages in joyful water fights for three days. The White Pagoda (Manfeilong) and the golden-spired Zongfo Temple are the park's most photographed buildings.
