The Shaanxi History Museum is one of China's finest provincial museums and essential context for visiting Xi'an and the surrounding region. The collection spans over a million years of human history in the Wei River valley — from Paleolithic tools through the Zhou, Qin, Han, and Tang dynasties. The Tang Dynasty galleries are the highlight, housing extraordinary gold and silver vessels, ceramics, and the famous Tang Tri-colour (sancai) figurines.
