East Lake (Donghu) in Wuhan is China's largest urban lake, covering 33 square kilometres in the eastern part of the city. The lake is surrounded by scenic parks and gardens that are particularly beautiful during cherry blossom season (late March) and lotus flower season (July). The East Lake Greenway — a 100-kilometre cycling and walking path circling the lake — is one of China's finest urban cycling routes.
