Longjing Tea Village
Longjing Tea Village — Dragon Well tea at its source above Hangzhou
Intro
Longjing Village in the hills southwest of West Lake is the home of Longjing (Dragon Well) tea — China's most celebrated green tea. The terraced hillsides of small-leaved tea plants, the traditional tea-roasting workshops, and the village life of the tea-farming community combine to create one of the most pleasant half-day escursions from Hangzhou. During the spring harvest (late March to early April), visitors can pick tea leaves and observe the hand-roasting process.
Best Time to Visit
Late March to early April for tea picking season.
Highlights
Getting There
Taxi from West Lake ¥30, 20 minutes. Bus Y3 from Quyuan Fenghe bus stop.
Tickets & Entry
Village free. Tea tasting/purchase from ¥50 for 50g.
Practical Tips
Buy directly from a plantation for genuine Longjing — avoid shops near the lake entrance where prices are inflated and quality varies. Pre-Qingming (明前茶, before early April) is the most prized first flush.
