People's Park & Heming Teahouse

People's Park is Chengdu's most beloved public space and the best place in China to observe local leisure culture. On any given afternoon, hundreds of Chengdu residents sit in bamboo chairs at the Heming Teahouse, drinking jasmine tea, playing mahjong, and having their ears cleaned by roaming ear-cleaners with their elaborate tools. The park also hosts a famous "blind date corner" where parents post profiles of their unmarried children on placards. It is a genuine window into Chengdu life.
