Star Ferry & Victoria Harbour
A 7-minute harbour crossing and one of the world's great short journeys
Intro
The Star Ferry has been crossing Victoria Harbour between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon since 1888. At HK$3.40 — one of the cheapest rides in the world — it offers what is arguably the finest urban waterfront view available for the price. The 7-minute crossing between Central pier and Tsim Sha Tsui provides unobstructed views of the Hong Kong skyline from water level, and the ferry itself — a double-decker green-and-white boat — is a Hong Kong icon.
Best Time to Visit
Any time, but sunset and after dark for the most dramatic views.
Highlights
Getting There
Central Ferry Pier 7 (Hong Kong Island) or Tsim Sha Tsui Ferry Pier (Kowloon). Runs every 6-12 minutes from 6:30am to 11:30pm.
Tickets & Entry
HK$3.40 on weekdays, HK$3.70 on weekends. Octopus Card accepted.
Practical Tips
Take the upper deck for the best views. The crossing from Tsim Sha Tsui to Central at night, with the island skyline illuminated, is the most beautiful direction. The Symphony of Lights show (nightly 8pm) can be watched from the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront before or after the ferry.
